We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health Officer to join our Private Sector Housing Team. As part of the Public Protection service area, you will play a vital role in protecting and improving the health of people living, working and relaxing in Ipswich. The service brings together teams who hold a highly visible and respected position across the Council.
Responsibilities:
- Investigate housing disrepair complaints, assess potential overcrowding, and inspect and license Houses in Multiple Occupation.
- Support the administration of grants, including adaptations for disabled residents and the renovation of empty homes.
- Support enforcement of the new Decent Homes Standard, respond to tenant complaints relating to unlawful evictions or harassment, ensure compliance with strengthened landlord duties, and contribute to improved transparency and data reporting requirements across the sector.
- Contribute to proactive projects and collaborative initiatives aimed at raising standards across the private rented sector.
Qualifications:
- Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health (or an equivalent accredited qualification).
- Competent in the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
- Professionally registered as an Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP) or working toward registration and a member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), meeting its professional and continuing development requirements.
- Excellent communication skills and a commitment to customer care, with the ability to take on a varied caseload and work independently.
- Strong team player with a positive outlook.
