The Senior Communications Officer/Assistant will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies to support the company's objectives. Reporting to the Director – Private Networks and collaborating closely with the group Marketing Manager, this role involves managing media relations, creating engaging content, and coordinating various communication channels to effectively reach stakeholders. The role also includes strategically utilising paid media to promote business messaging to relevant audiences.

Your New Role

  • Develop and deliver a communications strategy to ensure effective and timely communication with our audiences through relevant channels and content.
  • Copywriting and content production across digital and print media channels.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with journalists, keeping them informed of key announcements and pitching story ideas to secure coverage.
  • Support research and horizon-scanning activities with analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Manage individual strategic communication projects from creation to delivery.
  • Engage with stakeholders to support strategic communication partnerships.
  • Assist in developing crisis communication strategies and manage potential reputational risks.
  • Monitor media coverage and analyze communication effectiveness, providing regular reports.
  • Manage external suppliers effectively.
  • Work collaboratively across all communication disciplines.
  • Generate innovative and creative ideas for communication initiatives.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and regulatory changes in the utilities sector.

About You

  • Minimum three years’ experience in a communications role within a growing organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proven experience working with journalists and understanding of best practices.
  • Expertise in content creation for various channels.
  • Knowledge of communication channels and when to use paid content.
  • Experience working with stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • A passion for storytelling and securing media coverage.
  • Confidence and initiative in identifying stories across the business, working with UK-based teams.
  • Full UK driving license required for site visits across the UK.
