About the role…

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Private Networks Team in Wakefield as a Project Engineer - you will undertake the operational engineering of all project activities, assisting with planning and resourcing of direct and subcontract labour, ensuring that all aspects of health and safety are adhered to. Production and review of RAMS & SSOW documents. Review of design documents. Produce bill of quantities and selection and procurement of equipment and materials and arranging delivery to site.

Supervision and/or periodic site visits of site-based staff and site activities, to ensure that work is undertaken correctly, is progressing to agreed timescales and to be the point of contact for all engineering queries.

As a Project Engineer you will…

  • Work with all staff and clients to ensure that works are completed both on time and to the correct specifications and standards.
  • Arrange the delivery of project construction activities on HV & LV Electrical Distribution networks, including review and agreeing outage requirements with the client, planning resources and ensuring all RAMS and SSOW documents are prepared ahead of the works.
  • Engineering the delivery of projects activities on HV & LV Electrical Distribution networks, including but not limited to LV/HV Electrical Distribution assets, Containment, HV cable installation, minor civils works, switchgear/transformer refurbishments, HV cable fault rectifications etc.
  • Responding to client emergency call outs and working with Ipsum’s on call team, ensuring quick response times to minimise clients power down time, and to manage and communicate technical requirements and associated costs with the Ipsum Project Manager and clients site engineers.
  • To pro-actively generate leads and opportunities for the expansion of the service provision of Ipsum Power (Private Networks) Ltd.
  • To react to other leads from existing customers or in-house.
  • Ability to upsell the HV/LV services to existing customers.
  • Produce RAMS and SSoW documentation, and ensuring job packs are produced to a high standard to enable all site activities are commenced timely and with no delays.
  • Review design documentation and produce bill of quantities and arrange procurement of plant, materials and equipment.
  • Undertake site visits to ensure ongoing works are advancing in alignment with schedules/programmes, ensuring Ipsum and client satisfaction and any risks are identified and mitigated.
  • Communicate with Ipsum Project Managers, Planners, Site Teams and clients as required to assist in the delivery of both new and ongoing works.
  • Liaise with Ipsum Planning Team for labour requirements when required for Project work.

About you…

  • NVQ Level 3 Electrical and Electronic Engineering or equivalent
  • HNC Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience of operating in a commercial, multi-divisional organisation.
  • Detailed understanding of current HV/ LV electrical installation techniques.
  • Good knowledge of HV & LV switchgear, transformers and power assets in Electrical Distribution networks.
  • Solid and up to date knowledge of statutory requirements, legislation and technical advances.
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety practice and Risk Assessment.
  • Previous experience working in the High Voltage industry.
