At Wienerberger, we believe great careers start with great support. We’re proud of our friendly, inclusive culture where people are encouraged to learn, grow and build a future they’re proud of. We know there’s a growing demand for skilled engineers, which is why we’re committed to developing the next generation.
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands‑on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
You’ll work with expert training providers and gain real, hands‑on experience alongside experienced engineers, helping you build practical skills and confidence from day one.
Year 1: Learning the Foundations
In your first year, most of your time will be spent at IPS International in Rochester, Kent, where you’ll live and train on a residential basis. From Year 2 onwards, your apprenticeship becomes even more varied. You’ll split your time between on‑site learning and residential training, spending up to nine weeks a year away from home at national training centres or visiting equipment and robotics suppliers. These weeks give you the chance to work with cutting‑edge technology and learn directly from industry experts. Don’t worry, all travel and accommodation costs are covered.
You’ll be based at our Ewhurst factory, but for 9 weeks a year you will be spending time at our brand‑new Centre of Excellence at our Sandtoft site in Doncaster, a purpose‑built training space with modern workshops, classrooms, conference facilities and welfare areas. Here, you’ll train on a wide range of mechanical, electrical and robotic equipment, learning how to install, operate and maintain cutting‑edge technology to the highest standards.
This role isn’t just about learning the job, it’s about building a long‑term career. You’ll take part in real projects, develop valuable workplace skills and be supported every step of the way as you grow into a qualified engineer.
On‑site, a typical day could involve shadowing experienced engineers, helping to maintain and repair machinery, responding to breakdowns, or taking part in improvement projects. You’ll work across different UK manufacturing sites, giving you a broad understanding of the equipment you’ll be responsible for and how large‑scale production environments operate.
