An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship at ADM Erith. During the programme, the apprentice will gain a Level 3 recognised diploma/qualification, whilst also gaining valuable on‑job practical experience.
Training course: Engineering maintenance technician - single discipline (level 3)
Hours: Monday to Friday. Shifts TBC. 37 hours 30 minutes a week
Schedule: Tuesday 1 September 2026
Duration: 3 years 6 months
What you'll do at work:
- Perform planned maintenance inspections.
- Repair, install and inspect a wide range of equipment.
- Respond to breakdowns with the onsite Mechanical Technicians.
- Learn and participate in risk assessments and method statements for maintenance tasks.
- Gain an understanding of and use maintenance metrics.

Training: Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

- Inspect and test electrical aspects of plant.
- Remove and replace electrical parts.
- Prepare and terminate electrical cables.
- Set up, align and adjust electrical aspects of plant.
- Conduct and confirm electrical and connected services deisolation.
- Conduct functional testing.
Control and instrumentation:
- Conduct and confirm safe isolation of connected services.
- Select, check and use control and instrumentation maintenance tools, measurement and test equipment.
- Use control and instrumentation diagnostic equipment and apply fault finding and rectification techniques.
- Inspect and test control and instrumentation systems.
- Check calibration and make adjustments.
- Set up and adjust control and instrumentation systems.
- Remove and replace instruments and sensors.
- Reconnect instrumentation power supply, cables, pipework and services.
Mechanical:
- Check and confirm safe isolation of connected services.
- Select, check and use mechanical maintenance tools and equipment.
- Use mechanical diagnostic equipment and apply fault finding and rectification techniques.
- Check condition and operation of mechanical aspects of plant and equipment.
- Remove and replace mechanical parts.
- Examine mechanical parts for defects.
- Set up, align and adjust mechanical aspects of plant.
- Lubricate mechanical assemblies.
Year 1: Day release (Tuesdays) focuses on knowledge. Skills training delivered in blocks of 4 weeks (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday).
Year 2: Day release (Mondays) focuses on knowledge. Workplace integration.
Year 3–4: Monthly day release during year 3 to work on an engineering project.
Requirements: GCSE in English, Maths and Science (grade 4/C and above). Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience.
