Start your career as a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer with Cory, working at our Riverside Energy from Waste facility in Belvedere, South‑East London, the UK's largest energy‑from‑waste campus. The successful candidate will have many opportunities to gain a wide variety of skills both through college and on‑the‑job learning.
Training course: Engineering maintenance technician – dual discipline (Level 3).
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm (including break). Training at college: Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. 40 hours a week. Training starts on Tuesday 1 September 2026. Duration: 3 years.
Work: Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.
What you’ll do at work:
- Learn the energy‑from‑waste process including the combustion process, boiler chemistry, water‑steam cycle, turbine and pollution control equipment.
- Learn how to contribute to a positive Health, Safety and Environmental culture.
- Learn how to carry out routine inspections, safety checks and corrective maintenance.
- Learn how to carry out fault‑finding and problem‑solving of systems and their equipment.
- Learn how to safely operate plant, equipment and machinery.
- Support maintenance and operation colleagues during breakdowns.
- Learn about Stores and the importance of keeping them maintained and up to date.
- Learn how to complete and submit quality reports to document the condition of assets and assist in the continual improvement of the facility.
Where you’ll work: Cory Riverside Energy from Waste Facility, Norman Road, Belvedere, DA17 6JY.
Training: Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills. Training provider: IPS INTERNATIONAL LIMITED.
Qualifications you’ll work toward:
- Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering BTEC (years 1 and 2)
- Level 3 Engineering NVQ (years 2 and 3)
- Level 4 Engineering HNC (years 3 and 4)
Requirements: GCSE in Mathematics (grade 4). GCSE in Any Science subject (grade 4).
Skills: Analytical skills, Logical skills.
After completion: Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you may move into one of these career paths:
- Maintenance Fitter/Technician
- Electrical Fitter/Technician
- Electrical Controls and Instrumentation Fitter/Technician
