Would you like to earn a salary whilst learning on the job and gaining a qualification? We have an exciting opportunity for a Signage Apprentice who will learn how signage goes from brief to installation, including reading drawings, surveying sites, working with materials, machinery, safely assembling and installing signage on real projects.

Wage: £15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work:

  • Reading and acting from briefs
  • Surveying sites
  • Work with varying materials from producing to installing
  • Work with production machinery including printers and cutters
  • Installing signage and graphics on live projects

Where you’ll work: UNIT 1 DAJEN BUSINESS PARK, SECOND AVENUE, CHATHAM, ME4 5AU

Training: Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

Your duties will also include:

  • Interpreting information, for example customer briefs, specifications and work instructions
  • Calculating costs and preparing quotations
  • Planning and scheduling work
  • Preparing for signage work
  • Using graphic design software to design signage
  • Creating pre-fabrication files/instructions
  • Selecting and using materials and components
  • Trimming, cleaning and adding fixing features to signage such as eyelets, hinges and brackets, as required
  • Protecting materials and signs to prevent damage during manufacture, transportation and storage
  • Applying, installing or erecting signs
  • Checking signage materials and products against quality requirements
  • Identifying and documenting risks and hazards in the workplace; advising on and applying control measures
  • Complying with health and safety regulations and requirements
  • Complying with organisational and statutory environmental and sustainability considerations: safe disposal of waste, recycling of materials and efficient use of resources
  • Selecting, setting up, completing pre-checks and operating sign-making machinery, tools and equipment
  • Maintaining work area, tools and equipment for example, charging batteries and sharpening blades
  • Using access equipment in the installation process, for example ladders, fixed and mobile platforms
  • Communicating with colleagues and/or stakeholders – verbal, written or electronic; using industry terminology
  • Completing documentation for example job sheets, maintenance records
  • Rectifying or reporting issues

Requirements: GCSE in Maths and English (grade 4/C and above). Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
