About this apprenticeship
We are currently recruiting for a Business Development Apprentice. This apprenticeship will be part of a dynamic team, covering many disciplines within MEP. You will be in a department that is the first point of call with new and existing customers, on their journey with MEP.
Wage & Hours
Wage: £16,224 for your first year, with a potential increase depending on your age.
Hours: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Thursday; 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Friday (39 hours a week).

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Support the Business Development team in executing departmental activities and business objectives
- Provide friendly and supportive service to internal & external customers
- Aid the generation of customer quotations in line with business objectives and approved process
- Receive and process customer orders, in line with MEP approved processes
- Maintain internal records and data, according to MEP procedures
- Develop a high level of skill in the use of our ERP system – particularly customer quotations, loading orders, supplier feedback (RFQs) and prioritising EPICOR effectively
- Support marketing strategies and campaigns, including social media, LinkedIn, presentation, website updates and company events
- Uphold company procedures and ensure ISO9001/EN9100 quality management systems are maintained
- Uphold health and safety standards in yourself and others

Training
Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
- Skilled in the use of multiple IT packages and systems relevant to the organisation – writing letters or emails, creating proposals, performing financial processes, recording and analysing data.
- Produce accurate records and documents including emails, letters, files, payments, reports and proposals; make recommendations for improvements and present solutions to management.
- Exercise proactivity and good judgement, making effective decisions based on sound reasoning and dealing with challenges maturely.
- Build and maintain positive relationships within the team and across the organisation; influence and challenge appropriately, becoming a role model and developing coaching skills.
- Demonstrate good communication skills via face‑to‑face, telephone, writing and digital platforms; use appropriate channels effectively.
- Complete tasks to a high standard, reviewing processes autonomously and making suggestions for improvement; share administrative best practice.
- Take responsibility for initiating and completing tasks, managing priorities and time to meet deadlines, and managing resources and logistics.
- Use relevant project management principles and tools to scope, plan, monitor and report on projects; lead projects as required.
For this apprenticeship standard, learners will focus on the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to develop strong business acumen, decision making and an understanding of tools and techniques in relation to time and project management. Completion requires monthly training visits from a qualified IPS Trainer and, upon successful completion, achievement of the Level 3 Business Administrator Standard.
Requirements
GCSE in English and Maths at least a grade 4/C and above. Graduated or held qualifications and industry experience relevant to the role are welcome and can be reflected in the apprenticeship plan.
