We are looking for a Network Engineer I to join our team at our office in Birmingham, UK.

In this role, you will work with network and security teams to provide support in configuring, troubleshooting, and monitoring physical and virtual infrastructure across the global enterprise. You will be responsible for maintaining existing configurations on routers, firewalls, switches, and other network equipment and setting up new offices using company defined policies and procedures. Additionally, you will be expected to monitor alerts and notifications generated by various security tools, perform analysis of the alerts for potential compromises, and perform remediation steps that may be necessary based on alert analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Overall support and security of networks assigned (11.1%).
  • Monitor and support network stability and performance using existing solutions (11.1%).
  • Monitor and respond to incidents and service requests assigned to the network team (11.1%).
  • Undertake network fault investigations in local and wide area environments (11.1%).
  • Support logical and physical network security equipment in line with IT security policy (11.1%).
  • Upgrade/replace network equipment as required (11.1%).
  • Configure routing and switching equipment (11.1%).
  • Provide remote support to on-site IT staff and end users/customers during installation (11.1%).
  • Manage security mechanisms to prevent, detect, and respond to internal and external security threats (11.1%).

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 1 year of experience in a Network administration type role or IT Security type role, or 1 year in a Server administration type role, or a combination of such roles.
  • Strong understanding of network technologies including WAN, LAN, VLAN, Switching, Routing, Firewalls, Wireless/WiFi.
  • Understanding technical documents.
  • Technical documentation and report writing (Incident Reporting).
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft ecosystem including Servers, Workstations, Virtualization, and Azure.
  • Understanding of various backup technologies.
  • Understanding and use of KQL, SPL, FQL/CQL, or other querying languages used within different SIEM platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerShell.
  • Understanding of APIs and programmatic data retrieval.

Physical Demands

  • This position will require occasional lifting of heavy equipment.

Work Environment

  • This position will be working in office and data center environments.
  • This position will be working with electrical devices that require high voltage 240/120V to operate, for activities such as server, network rack installation, and maintenance.

Travel

  • This position may require travel to other IPS locations for information gathering, new office setups, system configuration, or training, as well as attending industry events.
  • Travel expectations are 5-10% per year.

Safety

  • This position is a safety-sensitive position.
  • The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other non-administrative areas.
