At IPS, you will apply your knowledge, skills, and passion to make a difference in the lives of people, solving complex challenges related to pharmaceutical, biotech, and animal health research and manufacturing facilities. We are looking for a Sustainability Intern to join our team out of our office located in Birmingham on a 9-month fixed term basis. This position will report to the Director of Sustainability EMEA.
The Sustainability Intern will assist the greater project team to leverage opportunities in the project design phase and beyond to reduce energy, carbon, water and waste intensities. Projects are primarily in the life science, biotech and pharmaceutical manufacturing sector, and frequently contribute to larger client portfolio standards and targets around scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and intensity reductions. The individual must be technically and analytically minded, and able to articulate ideas and concepts, using research of proven strategies and the latest technologies to guide fellow colleagues and partners towards innovative designs. This role is about challenging the status quo and guiding the way towards the UK/EU’s and client net zero goals. Travel to client sites in the UK may be expected.

Qualifications & Requirements- Assist the Sustainability team and collaborate with project teams to deliver sustainable design, construction and operations strategies, such as Site Decarbonization Roadmaps.
- Collect data and metrics for internal and corporate reporting requirements and support, if required, data collection on customer sites.
- Generate reports and present findings.
- Organise information in a collaborative, knowledge sharing fashion, collecting and developing lessons learned and case studies.
- Organise research and reference material in an easily accessible manner.
- Support the feasibility of green rating systems elements like BREEAM and LEED.
- Research the latest advances in sustainable technologies for both general building design and specialised manufacturing processes. Focus areas include: energy, carbon, water, waste and health & wellbeing.
- Travel duration, if any, is based on project complexity and location. The intern may be designated for field work and attend activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research or other non-administrative areas.
- Bachelor or Master student in related field, preferably in engineering, architecture, environmental, Sustainability, Geography, Renewable Energy or related subject.
- Knowledge of UK/EU environmental and sustainability legislation and policy.
- Ability to learn new software and interfaces such as REVIT, AutoCAD, IES, OneClick LCA.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Enthusiastic and resilient, innovative and technically grounded.
