Job Description

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry.

  • We are looking for a talented
  • Head of Civil and Structural to join our industry located in

Birmingham, UK .

The Head of Civil and Structural will conceptualise and lead the facility design services that support manufacturing and operational processes for numerous cutting-edge pharmaceutical facilities.

This individual should have experience with project scope development, programming, conceptual design, pharmaceutical regulatory compliance, material and personnel flow development, material and system evaluation, detail design, and construction administration.

  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and take ownership of Master Planning.
  • Define design philosophies and facility design parameters.
  • Assess project requirements, break project into tasks, and work with the appropriate Project Manager to determine scope of work, budget, and staffing.
  • Write scope of work for architectural design based on preliminary review and meetings with the client.
  • Participate in proposal presentations.
  • Present design information to project teams in a clear and concise manner.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes. Work with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception of building codes is required.
  • Assign and review work of the project design team.
  • Check progress of work and alert the Project Manager about scope changes or additional services.
  • Coordinate all aspects of project document completion within the company, externally with clients and other design professionals.
  • Prepare or review construction budgets based on experience and scope of project.
  • Promote use of and participate in development of company design and production standards.
  • Assist in the education and development of design staff and act as resource for design questions.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor of Architecture, RIBA certified and registration preferred.
  • Significant previous experience and proven success as a Project Architect (a Project Architect is defined as an individual who has maintained accountability and responsibility for independent and/or team-based projects).
  • Extensive previous architectural design experience with equivalent experience in the Pharmaceutical, Biotech and/or laboratory industries for domestic and/or international project types.
  • Proficient in the use of the Auto CAD & Revit.

Drawing experience is preferred; the Project Architect will be expected to use Revit to produce project design documentation independently to meet budget and schedule objectives.

All interviews are conducted either in person or virtually, with video required .
