Role Employ-Ability, an Essex-based charity, is seeking an Employment Specialist to support people with long-term health conditions or physical disabilities in securing sustainable paid employment, using the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) approach (training provided). You will manage a caseload, deliver person-centred advice, build relationships with employers, and work collaboratively with clinical teams to foster a holistic approach to recovery through employment.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain employer relationships and manage the employer engagement database.
- Arrange regular meetings with clients to monitor and review progress pre and post-employment.
- Spend time with local employers to negotiate job opportunities suited to individuals’ strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences.
- Challenge inequalities experienced by clients and address existing discrimination, promoting organizational learning.
- Work with employers to promote the service, identify job opportunities, and reduce workplace barriers, including job carving.
- Develop effective relationships with external agencies, such as colleges and training providers, to help individuals achieve employment goals.

The person
Qualifications
- Essential: Educated to a degree level or equivalent experience
- Desirable: Trained in IPS approach; Level 3 Diploma in Employability Services; QCF in Advice & Guidance (Level 3)
Experience
- Essential: Experience/understanding of working with people with mental health needs or similar groups; one-to-one support experience; managing multiple tasks; working assertively to influence decision-makers.
- Desirable: Experience helping people obtain or keep work; experience within mental health services; lived experience of mental health recovery; delivering services using the IPS model; meeting/exceeding outcomes and targets.
Knowledge
- Essential: Understanding of employment needs/challenges faced by people with mental health difficulties; awareness of a broad range of occupations/jobs; IT skills (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Desirable: Knowledge of benefits agency and disability/employment-related benefits.
Skills and Competencies
- Essential: Good motivational, communication, and listening skills; outstanding interpersonal skills; organizational ability; ability to build close, trusting relationships; team-orientation; ability to work independently and use initiative.
