We are looking for an experienced Building Surveyor to join our expanding team, playing a key role in managing domestic and commercial building claims from validation through to completion. You will work with a broad range of stakeholders - including policyholders, insurers, brokers, freeholders, leaseholders, tenants and supply chain partners — to deliver a consistently high-quality service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct detailed site visits and review client information to validate claims for policy coverage and scope.
- Communicate with policyholders to gather information and communicate liability and scope decisions.
- Create repair schedules, validate variation requests, and interpret policy wordings and insurer guidelines.
- Oversee the full claim lifecycle: damage assessment, validation, repair scheduling, fulfilment and final reporting.
- Appoint and manage contractors (asbestos, drying/restoration, building), ensuring compliance with repair specs and policyholder communication.
- Ensure all processes comply with company policies, procedures, and Health & Safety legislation.
- Provide technical support to claims handlers and other team members as required.
- Conduct initial site assessments and determine claim liability based on policy details and findings.
- Prepare and submit client reports and repair schedules within agreed timeframes.
- Arrange further site investigations such as trial pits and boreholes where required.
KEY SKILLS
- Technical expertise in building pathology, damage assessment, project management and reinstatement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce detailed technical reports.
- Resilient and adaptable, with the ability to handle complex claims and work under pressure.
- Proactive problem-solver with a practical, solutions-focused approach.
- Excellent organisation skills with the ability to manage multiple claims and meet deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Membership of CIOB, RICS, CILA or equivalent professional body.
- Degree in Building Surveying or Construction (or equivalent experience).
- Strong background in domestic and commercial building claims validation and project management.
- Insurance claims experience is essential.
