An established and growing independent firm of Chartered Accountants with offices across South Yorkshire has an opportunity for a compliance-focused personal tax professional to join the firm. The practice has a strong reputation in the private client market and continues to invest in its tax offering as part of its wider growth plans. This appointment sits within a dedicated tax team, reporting to the Head of Tax. The role is focused purely on personal tax compliance and advisory support.
The successful candidate will take ownership of the personal tax compliance function and play a key role in managing workflow, deadlines and client relationships. Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing a portfolio of personal tax clients including HNWIs, directors and owner-managed business clients
- Overseeing the preparation and review of self-assessment tax returns
- Handling income from property, capital gains and other personal tax matters
- Acting as the main point of contact for clients on compliance and routine advisory queries
- Managing HMRC correspondence and enquiries
- Supervising and reviewing the work of junior team members
- Monitoring workflow to ensure deadlines are met and compliance standards maintained
- Supporting the implementation and ongoing management of Making Tax Digital for Income Tax within the team
- Identifying opportunities to provide additional tax planning support where appropriate
The successful candidate will:
- Be ATT and/or CTA Studier (or qualified by experience at a senior level)
- Have strong personal tax compliance experience gained within accountancy practice
- Be comfortable managing their own portfolio with minimal supervision
- Have experience reviewing work and supporting junior staff
- Ideally have exposure to MTD for Income Tax or an interest in developing expertise in this area
- Demonstrate strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Be confident in dealing directly with clients and HMRC
