This is a critical role with a national insurer, offering the flexibility to work remotely or be based out of offices in Birmingham, Leeds, or Manchester, whichever suits your lifestyle best.
This is a 100% new business role, with each underwriter in the team working toward an individual target of £1 million in annual new business income. You’ll be handling inbound leads generated by the external sales team, quoting and converting manually underwritten cases with typical premiums of £10K–£15K. No e-trade or system pricing this is all about using your underwriting skill and commercial judgement. You can expect to pick up around one in three risks, depending on workflow, giving you real scope to make an impact.
You’ll be joining a well-established team led by an experienced manager and supported by a strong mix of senior and mid-level underwriters. The culture is collaborative, delivery-focused, and grounded in deep sector expertise. There’s flexibility built into how and where you work, but also a strong sense of connection and support across the team.
The ideal candidate will have experience underwriting new business in general P&C or commercial combined lines. What matters most is your ability to apply underwriting judgement, work towards targets, and communicate effectively with colleagues and brokers.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a specialist, values-driven team where you can underwrite meaningfully, focus on interesting risks, and enjoy the autonomy of remote or hybrid working.
