Development Underwriter - Care & Charity (Midlands & South)
IPS Group are delighted to be partnering with a market-leading specialist insurer to recruit a Development Underwriter into its successful and growing Care team.
This is a newly created position, introduced as part of a significant investment in the Care division, and offers a unique opportunity to combine underwriting expertise with business development responsibility. Unlike a traditional desk-based underwriting role, this position is highly market-facing and will see you taking ownership of broker relationships across the Midlands and Southern region, developing new business opportunities and helping to drive the next phase of growth within an already successful portfolio.
The Care team has established a strong reputation within the market and currently manages a substantial and profitable portfolio. With limited competition and a well-recognised brand within the sector, the successful individual will benefit from a strong platform from which to develop relationships and generate new business.
Focusing on organisations operating within the care and support sector, you'll work with risks including learning disability providers, mental health services, children's care organisations, residential care providers, charities, not-for-profit organisations and other specialist care businesses. You'll be responsible for identifying and converting new business opportunities, developing both new and existing broker relationships, negotiating terms and underwriting profitable business within your authority.
This is a role for somebody who enjoys being out in the market. You'll be expected to spend a significant amount of time meeting brokers, attending industry events and increasing the insurer's visibility across your territory. With around three days per week dedicated to broker engagement and an expectation of approximately 20 broker meetings per month, relationship building and business development will form a major part of your success.
We're keen to speak with commercially minded Underwriters, Development Underwriters or Broker Development professionals who can demonstrate experience of building broker relationships and generating new business. Previous exposure to the Care or Charity sector would be highly advantageous, although individuals from a broader commercial underwriting background with strong market-facing experience, relationship-building skills and the desire to specialise will also be considered.
The successful candidate will be proactive, self-motivated and comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy. You will possess strong negotiation skills, commercial awareness and the ability to balance underwriting discipline with growth objectives. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a genuine "hunter" mentality who enjoys creating opportunities rather than simply responding to them.
In return, you'll join a highly respected team of specialist underwriters within a business that continues to invest heavily in its people, products and market presence. You'll benefit from a flexible, home-based working arrangement covering the Midlands and South, a competitive salary, bonus potential of up to 20%, and genuine opportunities to influence business performance and progress your career within a growing organisation.
For individuals who enjoy the blend of underwriting, relationship management and business development, this represents an outstanding opportunity to make a visible impact within one of the UK's leading specialist Care insurance teams.
