Property & Casualty Underwriter / Senior Underwriter - New Business
Location: Manchester (Hybrid Working)

IPS Group is partnering with a highly respected global insurer to recruit a Property & Casualty Underwriter or Senior Underwriter to join its Manchester team. This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious underwriter looking to step up, or an established Senior Underwriter seeking greater autonomy, broker engagement and influence over business growth.

This is a genuinely broker-facing role, focused on winning and retaining profitable new business across the mid-market P&C space. You'll join a business that combines market-leading underwriting expertise with a culture that empowers individuals to make decisions, develop relationships and build a profitable portfolio.

The Opportunity:

You'll inherit strong broker relationships whilst identifying new opportunities across the region, working closely with brokers to understand their clients and deliver tailored underwriting solutions. You'll have the freedom to make commercial decisions, utilise modern underwriting tools and portfolio insight, and play an active role in shaping regional growth plans.

Unlike many underwriting roles that focus heavily on account maintenance, this position is firmly centred around new business generation and market engagement, making it ideal for individuals who enjoy being out with brokers and influencing outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Underwriting mid-market Property & Casualty risks across a diverse range of sectors
  • Driving profitable new business growth across the Manchester region
  • Building and strengthening relationships with key regional and national brokers
  • Identifying and capitalising on new trading opportunities
  • Supporting portfolio performance and regional underwriting objectives
  • Representing the business in the market and becoming a trusted underwriting partner

About You:

You'll have Property & Casualty underwriting experience gained within an insurer or MGA environment, alongside strong broker relationship management skills and a commercial mindset. Whether you're already operating at Senior Underwriter level or you're an ambitious Underwriter ready for the next step, you'll enjoy developing broker relationships, identifying opportunities and trading effectively to achieve profitable growth.

Why Join?

Join a globally recognised insurer with an excellent reputation in the market and a track record of investing in its underwriting talent. You'll benefit from genuine underwriting authority, strong leadership support and clear opportunities for career progression. The business has made significant investment in technology, data and underwriting capability, providing underwriters with the tools and insight needed to make informed decisions and succeed in a competitive market.

You'll also enjoy a collaborative culture, flexible working arrangements and the opportunity to work alongside experienced underwriting professionals who are passionate about developing talent and driving growth.

Hybrid Working

This is a hybrid role, with your time split between the Manchester office, broker visits and home working. Typically, around 60% of your week will be spent in the office or meeting brokers, providing a strong balance between flexibility and market engagement.

If you're looking for a role where you can build broker relationships, influence growth strategy and be trusted to make underwriting decisions, we'd be delighted to hear from you.
