We are recruiting for a Manufacturing Accountant to join an established manufacturing business in the Malton area. This is a varied position suited to someone who has developed their accounting experience within a production-led environment and understands the relationship between financial results and what is happening operationally.
Working within a small finance function, the role combines management accounting with analysis of manufacturing performance. There will be regular contact with production and other operational teams, using information from the finance and ERP systems to understand costs, stock movements, margins and areas of variance.
Key responsibilities
- Produce monthly management information and supporting analysis
- Work with manufacturing data to understand movements in labour, materials, overheads and margins
- Review stock and work in progress, investigating significant movements and discrepancies
- Complete core month-end accounting including reconciliations, journals, accruals and prepayments
- Provide useful financial information to production and operational management
- Contribute to budgets, forecasts and ongoing performance reporting
- Analyse variances and identify the operational factors behind financial results
- Support the development of reporting, controls and finance processes
- Assist with wider financial accounting and year-end requirements as part of a small finance team
About you
Previous finance experience within manufacturing, engineering or another production environment is important for this position. You could currently be working as a Manufacturing Accountant, Management Accountant, Cost Accountant or Assistant Management Accountant.
You may be qualified, part-qualified or actively studying towards an accountancy qualification. More important is a practical understanding of manufacturing finance, including areas such as stock, WIP and costing, alongside experience of producing management accounts.
Strong Excel skills will be needed, as will confidence working with financial and operational data. Experience using an ERP system would be advantageous. You should also be comfortable discussing financial information with people outside finance and investigating the reasons behind movements in performance.
Salary £50,000 - £55,000
