As a Functional Assessor, you’ll conduct assessments and produce fair, evidence-based reports for individuals applying for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) as part of the DWP's Health Assessment and Advisory Service (HAAS). Position Details

  • Salary: £40,000.00
  • Type: Permanent (Onsite role)
  • Full time: 40 hours (Mon – Fri from 8:30am – 5pm)
  • Location: Brighton (You must be located within a 90‑minute radius of the site to be considered for this role)

As a Functional Assessor, you will play a crucial role in interviewing claimants to understand the challenges they face. You will carry out detailed assessments through telephone, video, or face‑to‑face appointments to understand how a claimant’s disability, condition, or illness affects their ability to carry out everyday activities in a respectful, fair, and reassuring manner.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse information critically to create accurate and concise reports.
  • Interpret clinical information and evidence.
  • Maintain professional standards in written communication and adherence to code of conduct.
  • Provide positive experiences for claimants and colleagues, meeting quality and productivity targets.

Requirements

We would love to hear from you if you have:

  • A minimum of 1 year of clinical experience as a qualified healthcare professional (listed below)
  • An ability to demonstrate a broad clinical knowledge.
  • Previous experience in using computer software including Microsoft Office.

Essentials by Profession

  • Nurses: Qualified Nurse (RGN, RMN, RNLD only), Member of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN)
  • Physiotherapists/Occupational Therapists: Qualified Chartered Physiotherapist or Qualified Occupational Therapist, Member of the UK Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP) or College of OTs (COT)
  • Paramedics: BSc or Qualified Paramedic, Member of the UK Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)
