We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Medical Laboratory Assistant to work in our fast-paced medical laboratories in South Essex. Pathology First is a partnership between SYNLAB and Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, supporting Basildon and Thurrock Hospitals, Southend Hospital and more than 200 GP practices. It provides services to a population of 750,000 in the East of England and performs around 56,000 tests every day.
We operate in state-of-the-art laboratories, equipment and fully integrated IT systems. We have optimised laboratory layouts and improved processes so they are more efficient, enabling us to make the best use of people, time and resources. This role will be based between three sites of which two are in Basildon and one in Southend. This role will be a full shift rotation including nights.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for candidates who have passion for patient care, ideally with a background in healthcare setting who is able to work in a fast pace environment, has manual dexterity and is able to accurately enter patient information into Laboratory Information System. The successful candidate will work in a team as well as being required to work independently at times. The candidate will be participating in a variety of shifts such as early and later shifts (currently 0800-1600, 1000-1800, 1100-1900 and 1200-2000) each week including some weekends.

Job responsibilities
This essential role ensures our patients' biological samples are efficiently and safely handled following due health and safety protocols and accurately registered in our in-house laboratory IT system (WinPath enterprise). This enables tests to be processed and results issued in appropriate timeframes. The role also involves communicating with our patients, hospital staff and other departments, as well as other administrative duties.
