This is an office-based position.
Responsibilities
- Independently manages and maintains databases, ensuring performance, availability, and security.
- Implements standard database configurations, monitors performance metrics, and takes corrective actions for common issues.
- Coordinates with development and infrastructure teams for routine updates and enhancements.
- Independently install and configure standard database systems in development and test environments.
- Perform regular maintenance, patches, and updates.
- Manage daily health checks and respond to common alerts.
- Troubleshoot moderately complex issues in development and production environments.
- Collaborate with developers and system admins to resolve incidents efficiently.
- Participate in database migrations and data transfers between environments.
- Monitor performance using diagnostic tools and address common bottlenecks.
- Implement and manage user roles and access levels based on job duties.
- Manage backup schedules and verify backup integrity.
- Coordinate with developers and system administrators on routine integrations.
- Propose optimizations to improve routine DBA workflows.
Qualifications
- Experience working with multiple database engines (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
- Skilled in SQL query tuning, indexing, and performance troubleshooting.
- Proficient in database configuration and design.
- Solid scripting ability (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- Experience managing backup schedules and performing recovery.
- Familiar with database security practices and compliance considerations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or international equivalent). Typically requires 3+ years of hands‑on experience with database administration in production environments. Certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, Oracle DBA) are a plus.
