Key Areas for the Sustainability and Social Performance Team
The Sustainability and Social Performance team looks after Ipieca’s people and sustainability Groups. Under People, the Social Responsibility Group (SRG) convenes members to advance industry social performance, respect for human rights and contribution to social and economic development. The SRG aims to identify and monitor emerging social responsibility and human rights policies and standards, and coordinate Ipieca’s collective engagement around social performance. It develops operational guidance and tools to support the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The group also works to understand Ipieca’s role in the energy transition through a social and human rights lens.
Under Sustainability, the team manages Supply Chain Working Group (SCWG) and the Reporting Working Group (RWG). The SCWG informs members and supports other Ipieca groups on the management of sustainability risks in the supply chain to improve contractor and supplier environmental and social performance. The RWG convenes the industry to enable companies to improve the quality and consistency of their sustainability reporting, provide inputs and respond to external initiatives and trends, and encourage uptake of reporting across the industry.
Responsibilities
The Sustainability and Social Performance Manager will be part of the Ipieca Sustainability and Social team. In this role, the successful candidate will primarily provide support to Ipieca’s Social Responsibility Group, Human Rights Working Group, Supply Chain Working Group, Reporting Working Group and associated task forces under these groups. This role will involve a wide range of tasks covering the spectrum of issues e.g., exploring social performance, human rights, just transition, community engagement, Indigenous Peoples, sustainable supply chains and value chains, sustainability reporting, responsible security and impact assessment.
The manager will support the team in the delivery of each group’s annual business plans. More specifically, this will include:
- Primarily supporting the Social Responsibility Group, Human Rights Working Group and related task forces by coordinating and liaising with international stakeholders, consultants and members to facilitate the timely development of guidance, reports and publications and other items on the business plan such as proof‑reading materials, conducting research on relevant topics, coordinating reviews etc.
- Providing support to the Reporting Working Group and Supply Chain Working Group as deemed necessary.
- Organising and supporting face‑to‑face and virtual meetings, webinars and external workshops, including logistics, preparatory work (presentations, agendas and pre‑reads), taking minutes and following up on action points.
- Working with the Communications team and Sustainability and Social Performance team to keep website content up‑to‑date, develop internal and external communication materials as well as contributing to Ipieca’s activities on social media.
- Analysing data such as member survey results, member participation etc.
- Monitoring – and at times attending – relevant external events and providing follow‑up briefings on content and trends.
- Carrying out ad‑hoc tasks as they arise to support other Ipieca activities.
Necessary qualifications and experience
- Experience working in a business environment or in a non‑profit role liaising with the corporate sector.
- Knowledge or understanding of corporate social responsibility and sustainability issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work with senior individuals.
- Project management skills, with a proactive, solution‑focused approach.
- Ability to organise own workload and support multiple projects in a busy work environment.
- Strong analytic skills, and proficiency in MS office programs (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, Word, Teams).
- Willingness and availability for occasional international travel.
Preferable qualifications and experience
- Minimum two years' managerial experience.
- Experience writing news items, briefings and/or internal reports.
- Experience/understanding of sustainability issues for the oil and gas industry.
