Role Description
We are supporting a top tier patent and trade mark firm in the growth of their established office in Birmingham. This is a full‑time hybrid role for a Patent Attorney Partner based in Birmingham, with the flexibility to work from home part of the week. The Patent Attorney Partner will manage a portfolio of clients, advising on patent strategy, drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and providing guidance on patentability and freedom‑to‑operate issues. The role involves handling complex patent preparation and prosecution files, overseeing due diligence projects, and collaborating with colleagues to deliver high‑quality IP services. The successful candidate will contribute to business development, support key client relationships, and mentor junior team members. Regular interaction with domestic and international clients, patent offices, and external stakeholders will be a key part of the day‑to‑day work.

Qualifications
- Strong experience in patent preparation and drafting, including managing complex patent applications and related documentation.
- Deep knowledge of patent law and patentability requirements, with the ability to provide clear, commercially focused advice.
- Proven track record in conducting IP due diligence and assessing IP portfolios for risk, value, and strategic fit.
- Qualified CPA/EPA (or equivalent), ideally with partner‑level experience.
- Experience in client development, relationship management, and contributing to firm‑wide business strategy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical and legal concepts to a non‑specialist audience.
- Collaborative mindset and experience mentoring or supervising junior attorneys or support staff.
- Strong academic background in a relevant technical discipline (e.g., engineering, physics, life sciences, or related field).
