Venner Shipley is one of Europe's leading full-service intellectual property law firms, and we are seeking an ambitious graduate to join our top ranked Trade Mark team as a Trainee Trade Mark Attorney in London from autumn 2026. Our team provides proactive, commercially focused advice to clients across a wide range of sectors, from fashion and finance to technology and plant varieties. We work with some of the world's largest corporations, managing European and worldwide trade mark portfolios and handling complex contentious matters before the UKIPO, EUIPO and courts.

What you'll do

  • Work closely with experienced trade mark attorneys to advise clients on a broad range of trade mark matters, from portfolio management and prosecution to oppositions and appeals.
  • Help manage major trade mark portfolios for leading international businesses and brands.
  • Develop an understanding of our clients' commercial objectives and provide practical, tailored and commercially oriented IP advice.
  • Gain exposure to contentious matters before the UKIPO and EUIPO.
  • Work with clients across a diverse range of industries, gaining insight into different businesses, brands and commercial challenges.
  • Receive comprehensive specialist training and mentoring, developing the technical, analytical and client-facing skills needed to qualify as a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney.

What we're looking for

  • A strong academic background, with a 2:1 degree or above (or equivalent) in any discipline.
  • Excellent written, analytical and communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to quickly assimilate and apply new information.
  • Lateral thinking and a practical, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving.
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in understanding how businesses and brands operate.
  • A genuine interest in intellectual property and a desire to build a career in trade mark law.
  • The ability to work collaboratively while developing the confidence to build strong client relationships.

A law degree is not essential. Full specialist legal and professional training will be provided.
