Are you passionate about helping young people build the confidence and communication skills they need to succeed in education, training and employment? The Isle of Wight Youth Trust is seeking a motivated and engaging Employment Skills Builder to support the delivery of our DWP Youth Hub employment and education project for young people aged 16–25. In this role, you will use Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) as the foundation of all your work, ensuring young people receive timely, accurate and personalised support to make informed decisions about their future. Through a blend of one-to-one guidance, group workshops and digital engagement, you will help young people develop their communication, confidence and employability skills, enabling them to overcome barriers and progress towards positive outcomes in education, training and employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate and deliver the Youth Trust’s Skills Builder course elements, including full-course content and rolling drop-in sessions.
- Design and deliver engaging sessions that may include topics such as:
- Gateways to support
- CV writing
- Job searching skills
- Using social media for employment
- Collaborate with the Employment Assistant and wider team to ensure group sessions are aligned with individual support plans and the overall goals of young people.
- Support group cohesion and peer learning while identifying individuals who may benefit from additional 1:1 support or therapeutic input.
- Ensure continuous improvement of the course content based on feedback, employment trends, and the changing needs of young people.
About You
We are looking for someone who has / is:
- Experience of working with young people
- Lived experience or understanding of employment issues
- Excellent IT skills, using all elements of Microsoft Office 365 or equivalent
- Effective and confident written and verbal communicator
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Able to undertake an adaptable and flexible working approach with a focus on results
- Ability to relate to young people from all backgrounds being non-judgemental and open-minded.
- Empathetic, caring and sensitive to individuals and the community.
- Commitment to delivering quality services within the team and charity
