What will you be doing? The Finance Analyst role is a key position within the Management Reporting (MR) team at IOP Publishing, supporting one or more business functions. In this role, you’ll contribute to core financial activities including management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and delivering meaningful financial insights to the business. You’ll also support cost management, alongside revenue and cost analysis, helping to inform decision‑making across the business. Working closely with Management Accountants, you’ll partner with our Commercial Finance team, supporting financial processes and ensuring compliance with relevant financial standards, policies, and procedures. A key focus of this role is development within the Business Intelligence (BI) space. You’ll be encouraged to engage with evolving BI tools, AI‑driven solutions, and front‑end dashboard reporting to enhance how data is used and presented across the organisation. There is a strong culture of continuous improvement within the team, and you’ll be empowered to think creatively, challenge existing processes, and drive positive change, with a clear focus on improving efficiency and effectiveness across all areas of work.

Key job accountabilities include:

  • Monitoring financial processes and ensuring compliance, maintaining effective financial controls to support business transactions.
  • Supporting the development of annual plans, budgets, and forecasts, aligned to functional goals and objectives.
  • Producing and maintaining accurate revenue and cost reporting within the business unit.
  • Preparing balance sheet reconciliations for review by the Management Accountants.
  • Providing support in the targets and commissions process.
  • Assisting in the review of business transactions to ensure they are recorded in line with internal and external accounting policies and standards.
  • Supporting the delivery of management information and reporting to functional teams, enabling effective financial control and informed commercial decision‑making.
  • Contributing to the development of reporting requirements and Business Intelligence (BI) initiatives within the team.
  • Preparing management accounting information for distribution and presentation to external partners.
  • Supporting audit processes, including the preparation of required documentation and responses to audit requests.

About you:

  • Finance and accounting background
  • Experience of financial modelling
  • Business analysis skills including process documentation/analysis and visualisation
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methods and application is desirable
  • Knowledge and experience of Business Intelligence applications is desirable
  • Advanced excel, PowerPoint, and data visualisation.
  • Experience using Power BI and Salesforce desirable but not essential
