Service Engineer – Scientific Instrumentation

This is a full-time role for a Service Engineer – Scientific Instrumentation at Ionoptika Ltd working at our factory in Chandler’s Ford and up to 50% at customer sites both in the UK and overseas.

Role Description

Typical work activities will usually include some or all of the following:

  • Site visits in the UK or worldwide
  • Duration of visits are typically up to 7 days but may be several weeks on occasion
  • Seconded to Test department during training phase and when not at customers site for familiarisation in testing and optimising ion beam systems
  • Liaise with customers, providing advice and fault resolution
  • Liaise with Test / Engineering for 2nd line support
  • Liaise with sales to feed back customer requirements, concerns, and future sales opportunities
  • Creating documentation in relation to service activities
  • Develop and present customer training
  • Continually updating technical knowledge and skills by attending in-house and/or external courses, reading manuals and accessing new applications

Qualifications

  • Degree or HND/HNC in a technical subject preferably Electronics or Science, alternatively a technical apprenticeship in an Engineering company
  • 3-5 years of proven experience in a heavily customer focused position involving technical knowledge of a company’s products and service, must show experience of supporting electronic/software systems
  • Preference given to experience of vacuum systems, Scientific instrumentation (vacuum related, preferred)
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Motivated self-starter, able to work alone, and as part of a team
  • Fault finding and resolution skills of electronic/software systems
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Passport, ability and willingness to travel worldwide as required, potentially at short notice
  • Time-management skills and the ability to establish reasonable and attainable deadlines for resolution
  • Ability to prioritize and manage several milestones and projects efficiently
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
