Ionic Technologies International Ltd is a subsidiary of Ionic Rare Earths Ltd. Based in Belfast, Ionic Technologies has scaled up rare earth permanent magnet recycling technology to a pre-commercial demonstration plant (10 T per annum REO capacity) and a completed feasibility study. Ionic has plans to establish commercial operations in the UK and the USA along with other western jurisdictions. The parent company, Ionic Rare Earths, has a 50:50 joint venture in Brazil, Viridion, to develop a rare earth refinery and magnet recycling in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Ionic Rare Earths also controls 60% of a primary magnet and heavy rare earth rich Makuutu Project in Uganda.
Position Summary
We are seeking a chemical/process engineer to work on the scale up and commercialisation of our magnet recycling technology. This role will support both the magnet recycling project and the development of rare earth separation and refining technology. You will work within an interdisciplinary team focused on helping us to build a secure and sustainable rare earth supply.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide input to the overall process engineering package, plant design and general plant and facility layout.
- Perform design calculations, including mass and energy balances, heat transfer, and equipment sizing.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings and technical documents.
- Support FEED, EPC projects, plant commissioning, and other engineering studies.
- Conduct risk assessments and safety reviews, including supporting HAZOPs.
- Work with process engineering team to develop design, operation, and control philosophies.
- Troubleshoot production issues.
- Lead process improvement projects to debottleneck and optimise demonstration plant production.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
- Undertake work consistent with the company’s Code of Conduct.
- Any other duties as required.
Essential Requirements
- Degree level qualifications in chemical/process engineering or hydrometallurgy discipline.
- Experience with process design or chemical manufacturing industry.
- Strong communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Well-developed process analysis and technical problem solving skills.
- Work independently but able to effectively contribute to the functioning of a cohesive team.
- Proficient in MS Office suite, especially Excel.
- Familiarity with common process engineering documentation (e.g., MEB, PFDs).
