IONATE is a deep technology scale-up building the technology backbone for smart electricity grids. Our team is looking for a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to support our work on game-changing green technology and grow within our world-class team. This role will suit someone who thrives in a fast-moving, ever-changing environment, where no two days are the same.
Reporting to the Power Electronics Team Lead and requiring extensive knowledge and experience in electronics development and design, you will play a key role in developing, designing, implementing and testing electronics circuits and systems, taking concepts and prototypes through to commercial products. With a focus on grid-connected inverter design, you will be actively contributing to design & analyses, simulations, technical discussions, verification and validation processes. You will need an innovative approach to engineering with well-grounded reasoning and experience. Importantly you will contribute to live ongoing projects and test activities and work with the team to continue developing our HIT technology.
What you will do
- Power Electronics Design & Development
- Develop power electronics hardware and circuitry for power converters and controllers in grid connected applications
- Design, prototype, and validate power conversion systems (DC-DC/AC-DC) and mixed-signal circuits including ADCs and PWM controllers
- Be involved hands‑on with hardware design and validation respecting safety, quality, and international standards
- Develop PCB layouts with signal integrity focus and interfaced power stages with transformers, digital controllers, passive filters, and electromechanical systems.
- Thermal Management & Compliance
- Optimise thermal management solutions for high-power applications and implement EMI/EMC compliance strategies
- Testing, Debugging & Validation
- Conduct root‑cause analysis for system‑level debugging across prototype and production phases
- Actively participate in technical development and testing across a multi-disciplinary team including power electronics designers, mechanical engineers, control & software engineers
- Project Management & Collaboration
- Work to clear timelines and collaborate with a cross‑functional team to deliver projects on time, with ambitious product targets
- Documentation & Standards
- Create and maintain documentation such as requirements and specification documents, testing reports and product manuals
What you will need
- Technical Expertise in Power Electronics
- Degree in Electrical and Electronics engineering or equivalent
- Extensive experience in power electronics design, ideally in high power applications
- Good understanding of electronic and electrical components and their principles, integrated circuits, signal processing and passive/active filter designs
- An understanding of best practices related to thermomechanical designs
- Design, Modelling & Simulation
- Experience in electronics circuit modelling and simulation
- Experience using tools such as SPICE, Altium, MATLAB, Confluence, JIRA
- Ability to design, create and test PCBs
- Testing & Validation
- Experience conducting laboratory and site‑based testing using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analysers, grid emulators etc
- Manufacturing & Production
- Experience designing systems fit for large scale manufacturing and production
- Collaboration & Communication
- Communication skills enabling you to work with various teams across the globe
- willingness to travel nationally and internationally when required for testing/ commissioning
- A drive to learn new things!

- Design experience for low noise, mixed signal systems
