HSE Manager - Heavy Engineering & Fabrication Rotherham | £45,000 | Permanent This isn't a desk-based Health & Safety role. We're looking for an experienced HSE professional who knows what good safety looks like in a heavy engineering and fabrication environment. Someone comfortable walking through a workshop where steel is being cut, welded, fabricated and assembled. Someone who understands the risks associated with heavy machinery, lifting operations and maintenance. And someone equally comfortable putting on their PPE and going to a customer site to support installation, servicing and repair work. If your HSE experience has been gained in that kind of environment, this could be an excellent opportunity. The Business You'll be joining an established South Yorkshire engineering manufacturer producing heavy machinery for the mining, quarrying and recycling industries. The equipment is manufactured and assembled in Rotherham before being installed and maintained at customer sites. It's a practical, down-to-earth engineering business with an excellent record of retaining its people. Experience is respected, ideas are listened to and you'll have the authority to make a genuine difference. The Role As HSE Manager, you'll take ownership of Health, Safety and Environmental standards across the manufacturing operation and wherever the company's engineers are working on customer sites. This means being visible. You'll spend time in the workshop working alongside fabricators, engineers, maintenance personnel and management rather than managing safety solely through policies and spreadsheets. You'll also visit customer sites, ensuring installation, servicing and maintenance activities are properly planned and controlled. Your responsibilities will include: * Leading HSE across fabrication, assembly, maintenance and site activities * Preparing and reviewing RAMS and safe systems of work * Managing risks associated with machinery, lifting, maintenance and installation * Ensuring compliance with PUWER, LOLER, COSHH and machinery safety requirements * Maintaining ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems * Conducting workshop inspections, audits and customer-site visits * Investigating incidents and implementing practical corrective actions * Managing training, competency and certification requirements * Working directly with engineers and production teams to continually improve working practices The Person We're Looking For Your industry background matters. We're specifically looking for someone who has worked within heavy engineering, steel fabrication, machinery manufacture or a closely related industrial environment. You should understand the realities of controlling risk around fabrication workshops and engineering activity on customer sites. Ideally, you'll also have previous practical mechanical engineering experience, giving you the technical credibility to engage confidently with the people doing the work. You'll need: * NEBOSH National Diploma, Level 6 NVQ in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent * Significant HSE experience within heavy engineering, fabrication or industrial manufacturing * Practical knowledge of fabrication/workshop and site-based engineering activities * Strong working knowledge of PUWER, LOLER, COSHH and machinery safety * Experience preparing RAMS and safe systems of work * Confidence working with everyone from shop-floor engineers to customers and senior management * GradIOSH or CMIOSH would be advantageous Why Consider It? This is an opportunity to take ownership of HSE within a business where safety and engineering have to work together. You'll have direct access to the people making decisions, a workforce with significant engineering experience and the opportunity to influence how work is carried out both in the factory and on customer sites. If you've built your HSE career around fabrication, heavy machinery and site engineering, we'd particularly like to hear from you.
