About Us
Our company is a highly respected engineering firm based in West Yorkshire. We specialise in the design, manufacture, and installation of high-quality metal tanks, vessels, silos, pipework, and structural steelwork. With a diverse and extensive portfolio of clients across multiple industries, we pride ourselves on delivering robust, bespoke, and reliable engineering solutions.
The Role
We are currently seeking a driven and commercially astute Business Development Manager to take ownership of our Southern territory. Covering the area from the M62 corridor down through the South of England and including Wales, you will be the face of our company in the region. This is a dynamic, field-based role with a strong emphasis on generating new business, whilst also nurturing, retaining, and developing relationships with our existing customer base. You will be managing your own patch, meaning autonomy, self-motivation, and excellent organisation are key to your success.
Key Responsibilities
- New Business Development: Proactively identify, target, and secure new business opportunities within your designated territory.
- Account Management: Nurture and develop relationships with existing clients, identifying opportunities to upsell, cross-sell, and maximise account potential.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Conduct face-to-face meetings, presentations, and site visits. You will need to build strong relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, from hands-on site engineers and project managers to senior directors and board members.
- Solution Selling: Understand customer requirements and propose tailored engineering solutions across our product range (tanks, vessels, silos, pipework, and structural steelwork).
- Diary & Time Management: Effectively plan and manage your own diary, prioritising tasks, travel, and client meetings to maximise your time in the field.
- Commercial Negotiation: Secure enquiries, input into quotations, present and negotiate commercial proposals and contracts.
- Travel: Attend client sites, industry events, and meetings. Please note: This role requires occasional overnight stays away from home, typically 1 to 2 nights per month.
About You
- Experience: Proven experience in a commercial sales or a business development role.
- Communication: An exceptional communicator who can adapt their style to suit the audience. You must feel equally comfortable discussing technical details on-site with engineers as you do presenting commercial value to senior directors.
- Organisation: Excellent time management skills with the ability to plan your own schedule, manage your diary, and work autonomously without micromanagement.
- Drive: Self-motivated, target-driven, and resilient, with a genuine passion for closing deals and building long-term relationships.
- Mobility: A full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively within the territory.
- Industry Knowledge: Previous sales experience within the engineering, manufacturing, or construction sectors is highly desirable but not essential. We are looking for the right sales acumen and attitude; full product training and ongoing technical support will be provided to bring you up to speed.
What We Offer
- Competitive base salary plus an attractive commission/bonus structure based on secured orders.
- Company car / car allowance.
- Comprehensive product and industry training to ensure you are fully supported.
- The backing of a highly reputable, established engineering firm with a fantastic product range.
- Other benefits, e.g., Company pension, 25 days holiday + bank holidays, rising to 28 days after 3 years continuous employment, Workplace Pension, Death in Service.
