Your Role: Mechanical Engineer

Ion Beam Services (UK) Ltd are recruiting an experienced Multi-Skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to work within our engineering group at our site in Bathgate, Scotland, United Kingdom. The role will involve working on the design of advanced Semiconductor Ion Implantation equipment including:

  • Calculate dimensions, allowances, and specifications per standard procedures or general design knowledge of capabilities when standard procedures do not exist.
  • Recommend and/or develop new procedures to improve the efficiency of the design and/or detailing process.
  • Utilize Solidworks (or other 3D modeling software) to perform engineering and design tasks.
  • Participate in design and engineering solutions, including applications, mechanical, manufacturing, quality and safety.
  • Provide controlled drawings to Purchasing upon request.
  • Travel to site location when necessary to meet with customers or provide instruction to installation crews or to troubleshoot any problems.
  • Support lead engineer in assessing customer & legal requirements, in identification of gaps.
  • Work closely with engineers and technical personnel.
  • Research and development of new products to meet market and customer needs.
  • Identify new suppliers and work with current suppliers.

Background: We are looking to hire a multi-skilled Manufacturing Engineer with solid experience with industrial machinery.

Prerequisites:

  • Time-served, with an HNC/Equivalent qualification in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or closely-related subject, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in manufacturing.

Key Skills:

  • HNC/degree or equivalent qualification in a mechanical engineering discipline or closely related subject, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in mechanical systems.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical integration.
  • Creating and maintaining mechanical diagrams/schematics via CAD software (SOLIDWORKS).
  • Strong and versatile technical problem solver.
  • Calculations and design systems.
  • Capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
  • Competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline.
  • Theory and practices of assigned discipline.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience in high vacuum systems.
  • Drive Continuous Improvements of mechanical technology.
  • Complete project responsibilities within scope, budget and schedule.
  • Review drawings for completeness and accuracy.
  • Create detailed drawings of parts or subassemblies based upon layouts/models including pneumatic schematics.
  • Confers with engineering and manufacturing staff to determine unspecified tolerances and dimensions.
