Ion Implantation is an exciting area within semiconductor processing where these machines literally pull molecules apart to alter the chemical structure of various materials creating functional devices that help maintain and shape our technological world. Our facility in Bathgate Scotland has been meeting our customer requirements for over 20 years and continues to develop new innovative methods, products and services to support our global customer base. We have embarked on an exciting new project and have a requirement for an enthusiastic, talented, and dedicated Electrical Design Engineer ideally with experience in the semiconductor/medical/capital equipment sector. However, consideration will also be given to engineers from other industry sectors able to demonstrate the requisite talent and skills this position demands.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- The Electrical Engineer will report directly to the engineering manager on a day-to-day basis.
- Select electrical equipment, cable types & ratings, materials, components, or systems to meet functional and operational specifications.
- Analyze requirements and produce electrical drawings or other related documents using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Documentation of wiring procedures and co-ordination with manufacturing staff.
- Support manufacturing in process and product improvement projects.
- Assess electrical circuits and systems using appropriate test equipment.
- Creation and maintenance of specifications & Bills of Material.
- Low Voltage electrical distribution design & control panel design and prototyping.
- Perform necessary calculations to demonstrate compliance with health and safety requirements and adherence to electrical design standards.
- Work with suppliers to ensure that electrical equipment or systems meet design specifications.
- Estimation of project timescales and labour & material costs.
- Occasional travelling (e.g. training, supplier visits, support external testing, customer trials, etc.).
- Design and development of production test fixtures.
- Timely action on quality and electrical safety related issues.
Essential Requirements:
- HNC/Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or closely related subject, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in electrical systems.
- Solid understanding of Electrical-mechanical integration.
- Creating and maintaining electrical wiring diagrams / schematics via CAD software.
- Experience of electrical wiring layouts and harnesses to meet health and safety requirements, electrical standards and best practices.
- Strong and versatile technical problem solver.
- High level of practical electrical skills.
Desirable:
- Experience of using SEE Electrical 2/3D CAD software.
- Knowledge of safety systems relating to machinery directive or global equivalents.
- Experience of certifying products to EN61010 (Low Voltage Directive) and CE marking.
- Understanding of products for industrial process control and automation (e.g. PLCs & PACs).
- Experience of functional safety standards.
- Experience of design for signal integrity and EMC.
- Previous experience in new product introduction and manufacturing process improvement.
- Time served apprenticeship an advantage.
