Additional responsibilities include:

  • Act as a contributor and decision maker within the extended centre of excellence and technical design authority.
  • Justify, through business case development, the investments required by the business to realise corporate and portfolio strategies.

  • Work beyond the remit of cloud and contribute to the development of adjacent technologies by working closely with architects responsible for networking, security, and storage and take shared accountability for the development of our platforms.
  • Actively engage with market intelligence sources to provide current and forward thinking thought leadership on cloud technology trends and market drivers, particularly VMware's development roadmap to provide competitive awareness to the business.
  • Act as an evangelist for our cloud solutions, supporting communication and training within the business on VMware technologies and best practices.
  • Own and maintain solution architecture standards including design patterns, documentation (reference architectures, HLD, LLD), and quality assurance and acceptance testing frameworks.
  • Act as an approver and decision maker for the Go Live readiness of services and major service changes.
  • Ensure there is ongoing collaboration and transparency between product practices across the Group, removing silos.

You'll be critical to Iomart retaining and maximising its VMware Pinnacle VCSP status, and remaining at the front of the market for scalable, secure hybrid cloud managed services.

How to prepare for a job interview at iomart

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If iomart uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
