The Membership Committee oversees the standards and processes for the award of membership grades and professional qualifications to meet the requirements for registration levels for which IOM3 has licences, in the UK and abroad.
The committee comprises up to 15 members, from both academia and industry and is generally representative of the overall membership.
Due to recent retirement of a committee member we have an opportunity for a new volunteer post. A requirement of the role is that you hold the MIMMM or FIMMM grade and CEng registration.
Description of role
As a member of the IOM3 Membership Committee you will have a role in supporting the remit of the committee, as outlined below:
- To uphold and develop the standards for professional membership and registration of members under the terms of the Registration Bodies (Engineering Council UK, The Science Council and the Society for the Environment).
- To assess applications for the TIMMM, AIMMM, MIMMM and FIMMM grades and qualified for Minerals Reporting (QMR) registration and to award candidates who meet the relevant criteria.
- To assess applications for Technician, Registered/Incorporated and Chartered grades and award professional registration under the terms of our licenses with the Registration Bodies.
- To develop and oversee programmes to grow and retain membership of IOM3, as directed by the Executive Board and Professional Standards Development Board (PSDB).
- To advise the Executive Board and PSDB on upgrades and amendments to member benefits.
- To monitor and report to PSDB on trends in membership and on the development of Registration Body requirements.
- To make proposals to PSDB on membership issues.
- To monitor the membership assessment process and make recommendations.
- To assess continuing professional development (CPD) records of registrants in accordance with Registration Body requirements.
The committee conducts most of its work via email but meets virtually four times a year.
The candidate is required to have a good understanding of the requirements of professional registration through their role within academia or industry. It is an advantage if the candidate has been involved in scrutineering or assessment roles, but this is not essential as training and support will be provided.
