We're recruiting for an experienced Senior Backend Developer to join a high-profile international technology programme focused on building scalable, data-driven applications. This is an exciting opportunity to work on modern backend architecture, processing complex geospatial and temporal data within a collaborative engineering environment.
This is a hands-on role where you'll take ownership of features from design through deployment, working closely with architects, data engineers and software developers to deliver robust, production-grade solutions.
What you'll be doing:
- Design and develop scalable backend services using Python and FastAPI
- Build RESTful APIs and microservices
- Develop data pipelines supporting large-scale analytics platforms
- Work with Neo4j graph databases and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or SQL Server
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to design clean, maintainable software using Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
- Write high-quality, well-tested code and contribute to code reviews
- Support CI/CD pipelines, containerised deployments and cloud-native development
- Troubleshoot performance issues and contribute to architectural decisions
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Strong commercial experience with Python
- Production experience with FastAPI
- Solid understanding of REST APIs and microservice architectures
- Experience applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
- Strong SQL skills with PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server
- Hands-on experience with Neo4j graph databases
- Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and Git
- Understanding of secure software development principles
- Excellent communication skills and experience working within Agile teams
Desirable Experience:
- Databricks
- Microsoft Azure
- Event-driven architectures (Kafka, MQTT, Azure Event Hubs, etc.)
- Geospatial or time-series data
- Observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana or OpenTelemetry
Eligibility:
Due to project requirements, applicants must be citizens of a NATO member country and currently reside within a NATO member country.
