  • Start: As soon as you can: learners start on 16 November

You've built the dashboard people actually used and written the SQL that answered the real question. Somewhere along the way you became the person colleagues came to when the data didn't make sense.

For four months, coach a cohort of career changers to do what you do, and get them good enough to be hired for it.

People don't get good at data by studying it. They get good by doing the work: real analytical work on real problems, coached by people who've actually done the job. That's why we hire practitioners.

What the job is

One cohort, one coach, start to finish. Your learners are career changers on our Oxfordshire Skills Bootcamp, working towards the NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Data over 10 weeks. They start on 16 November. It's mostly online, from session packs we've already built, with six in-person days in Oxford.

So you're not writing a course. You're bringing one to life, and coaching the judgement behind it: asking the right question of the data, knowing what it can and can't say, and explaining the "so what" to someone who isn't technical.

Your week

It comes down to one thing: everyone in your cohort keeps up, and finishes.

  • Live sessions online, and the in-person days in Oxford
  • Drop-ins, office hours and one-to-ones, so nobody quietly falls behind
  • Marking in iO Academy, our learning platform: you review the AI-drafted feedback, make the final judgement against each criterion, and write feedback learners can act on
  • Watching pace, not just completion, and stepping in early when someone is struggling
  • Getting them hired: CVs, portfolios and interview preparation as they move into data roles
  • Records to the standard a regulated provider needs

Why you'd want it

You'd see what it's like to coach before committing to it: four months, one cohort, a clear finish line. And you'd get the thing corporate roles rarely give you: watching someone go from nervous about their first SQL query to walking into an interview for a data job, and knowing you were part of why.

We're a startup, so how we coach is still being built, and we'd want your ideas. Depending on programme volume when the contract ends, there's a real route into further bootcamp, apprenticeship or commercial coaching with us.

Who you are

You've done real data analysis, with Excel, SQL and a BI tool such as Power BI or Tableau. You can explain a technical idea to someone from a non-technical background without a trace of condescension. You're patient, organised, and other people getting good at something gives you energy.

You don't need to have taught before. We hire practitioners and teach them to coach: our coaches came from Accenture, Dialpad, Black Swan Data, BT and Three, and none of them arrived as teachers. We fund the Level 3 Award in Education and Training if you need it.

About iO-Sphere

We train people to do things with data and AI, not just learn about them. Learners work on real problems, including in Prism, a simulated business we built on 500 million rows of real data. 1,000+ people have trained with us, we're rated 4.8 on Google, and teams at PwC, BAE Systems, Dunelm, Motorway and CBRE send us their people.

How we hire

  1. Screening call (about 30 minutes). With our Recruitment and People Ops Lead, on your background and motivation, including our safeguarding questions.
  2. Behavioural interview. A conversation with the team you'd work with about how you've handled real situations at work.
  3. Mini-teach. Our work sample for coaching roles: you run a short session for the delivery team, as you would for learners.
  4. Final call. With our Managing Director, to talk through the offer, salary and start date.

iO-Sphere is committed to safeguarding and operates within regulated Further Education environments. This role requires an enhanced DBS check, and safeguarding and Prevent training. All applicants must complete their application honestly and in full, and consent to the pre-employment checks required for the role. Failure to disclose relevant information, or providing false information, will result in the application being withdrawn or employment being terminated.
