Our Client is a fast-paced operation focused on warehouse and inventory management, supporting day-to-day logistics through practical processes, accurate stock control, and reliable traceability. They're looking for someone who can take a hands-on approach, improve how work is organised from end to end, and help instil practical, measurable warehouse standards.
Role Summary
Warehouse processes currently rely heavily on manual movement of goods and paperwork, with limited visibility across tracking and traceability. Stock is arriving and being recorded manually, and there's a need to bring structure, basic KPIs, and clear location strategy into daily operations. This contract role is strategically important because it will help establish reliable warehouse routines and improve inventory accuracy - foundational elements that directly support the wider business. You'll work alongside the Stores Manager (in a shadowing capacity initially), observe what's happening 'top to bottom', then implement straightforward improvements that help teams operate with confidence and clarity.
Responsibilities
- Shadow the Stores Manager and quickly assess current warehouse workflows, from receiving through to storage and inventory updates.
- Establish practical, easy-to-use basics for warehouse operation (processes, ownership, and consistency).
- Create and introduce basic warehouse KPIs to improve performance and accountability.
- Review stock handling practices, including stock accuracy and stock location discipline.
- Implement a clear stock location approach to support faster, safer picking and more reliable inventory counts.
- Support roll-out of barcode scanning, labelling, and improved traceability practices (where applicable).
- Ensure inventory intake is recorded properly and consistently when goods arrive (including manual elements, if currently required).
- Help train and embed working habits on the floor, working alongside hourly warehouse staff to improve outcomes.
- Plan daily/weekly actions to ensure every area of the warehouse is covered and improvements stick.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong practical experience with warehouse operations and logistics - able to work effectively 'hands on', not just advise.
- Demonstrable experience improving stock accuracy, stock location control, and day-to-day inventory discipline.
- Familiarity with barcode scanning and labelling processes, with the ability to embed them into routine work.
- Experience creating basic KPIs and using them to drive operational improvements.
- Ability to organise processes and introduce structure quickly in a busy warehouse environment.
- Confident communicating on the shop floor and working directly with teams of multiple hourly workers.
- Operational mindset with a focus on reliability, repeatability, and measurable progress.
