Our client is a specialist engineering company that designs and manufactures bespoke electromechanical equipment and industrial process machinery for a range of highly regulated industries. Their multidisciplinary engineering team delivers complex projects from concept through to manufacture, installation, and commissioning.

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be reporting to the Head of Engineering. You will take technical ownership of the mechanical design and development of bespoke industrial equipment, supporting projects throughout the full product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design activities for bespoke machinery and electro-mechanical systems
  • Produce 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation
  • Design special-purpose machinery, process equipment, and conveyor/material handling systems
  • Support integration of electrical/electronic systems, including enclosures and packaging
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners
  • Ensure designs comply with manufacturing, safety, CE, and UKCA requirements
  • Support installation, commissioning, and technical problem-solving where required

Skills & Experience

  • Strong 3D CAD experience using Solid Edge or similar (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, etc.)
  • Background designing bespoke electro-mechanical equipment or special-purpose machinery
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, tolerancing, and DFM/DFA principles
  • Experience with sheet metal design, structural assemblies, and enclosures
  • Knowledge of conveyor/material handling systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a practical engineering mindset

Desirable

  • Hydraulics and pneumatics experience
  • Exposure to installation, commissioning, and fault-finding
  • Knowledge of CE/UKCA machinery compliance standards
