We are seeking an experienced Authorised Person (Electrical) [AP(E)] to join a major construction and commissioning programme within a highly regulated environment. This is a key position responsible for ensuring electrical safety compliance across the project, supporting the safe delivery of construction, testing, energisation and commissioning activities. You will act as a subject matter expert for electrical safety, providing governance, oversight and guidance to project teams, contractors and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate electrical safety activities in accordance with project procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Review, approve and oversee Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), electrical isolations, energisations and live testing activities.
- Liaise with Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, Quality and Client teams on all electrical safety matters.
- Audit Authorised Persons (Electrical), conduct site inspections and maintain relevant safety registers and records.
- Coordinate and witness electrical isolations and energisations of plant and equipment.
- Support the operation of the M&E Permit Office and ensure effective control of live electrical activities.
- Review contractor documentation, including test sheets, site acceptance tests, setting-to-work documentation and safety procedures.
- Provide electrical safety training and guidance to project personnel.
- Assess, appoint, audit and maintain competency records for AP(E) personnel.
- Ensure contractors and vendors comply with project electrical safety procedures and standards.
Essential Requirements
- Time-served Electrical Technician, Electrician or Electrical Engineer with significant site-based experience.
- Current or previous experience as an Authorised Person (Electrical) - AP(E).
- 17th or 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations.
- City & Guilds 2391 or 2394/2395 electrical testing qualifications.
- AP(E) training certification.
- SMSTS or equivalent CDM qualification.
- Full First Aid qualification.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Health and Safety at Work Act (HSAWA)
- Electricity at Work Regulations (EAWR)
- CDM Regulations
- Risk Assessments
- Safety Cases
- Safe Systems of Work (SSoW)
- Experience supporting large-scale construction and commissioning projects.
- Experience working with contractors, subcontractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain SC Security Clearance.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within nuclear, defence, power generation, utilities or other highly regulated industries.
- Experience operating within an M&E Permit Office environment.
- Project management experience.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or membership of a relevant professional institution.
- Experience working on safety-critical plant and equipment.
