iO Associates are partnering with a company based in Barnsley to find an experienced Senior Design Engineer to grow their team due to investment into the business. We're looking for a Senior Design Engineer who thrives on solving complex design problems and enjoys working across a variety of sectors. This is an opportunity to join a well-established engineering business with a strong reputation for delivering large-scale, turnkey mechanical systems. From bespoke machinery builds and mechanical handling equipment to large rotating machinery, we deliver innovative solutions to customers across the UK and beyond.

What you'll be doing

In this key role, you'll take ownership of the full design lifecycle, from initial concept through to manufacturing, installation and final commissioning. You'll be the technical lead on multiple concurrent projects, working closely with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure successful delivery.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the technical delivery of bespoke engineering projects
  • Producing conceptual designs, supported by calculations and analysis
  • Creating and modifying detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings (Inventor and/or SolidWorks)
  • Managing technical aspects of projects to meet scope, budget and timeframes
  • Providing engineering input during installation and site testing phases
  • Acting as a key point of contact across disciplines, ensuring smooth communication throughout the project lifecycle

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone with a strong background in heavy engineering, ideally across machinery build, mechanical handling, or rotating machinery projects. You'll be comfortable working with technical complexity and able to manage multiple design projects to tight deadlines.

Essential skills & experience:

  • HNC or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Proficiency in Inventor and/or SolidWorks
  • Experience with full design lifecycle in complex engineering projects
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
  • Experience delivering projects from design through to commissioning
