A well-established engineering organisation specialising in bespoke equipment for the offshore energy sector is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of complex mechanical systems. This role combines technical leadership, client interaction, and hands-on engineering across electro-hydraulic and pneumatic equipment used in demanding environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as lead engineer and primary technical interface for clients on new equipment design and build projects
  • Deliver designs in accordance with client specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements (including hazardous area compliance)
  • Produce and manage engineering calculation packages to validate design integrity
  • Develop conceptual and detailed designs for bespoke mechanical systems
  • Specify and select components (e.g. pumps, motors, valves, gearboxes) for electro-hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Review and approve manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly drawings
  • Lead design reviews with internal stakeholders and external clients
  • Prepare test procedures, commissioning documentation, and operation manuals
  • Support testing and commissioning activities where required
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in a relevant engineering role
  • Strong experience with electro-hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including testing and commissioning
  • Proven ability to specify and integrate mechanical and fluid power components
  • Experience designing bolted and welded structures
  • Knowledge of rotating equipment design (shafts, bearings, gears)
  • Proficiency with CAD software (preferably SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD)
  • Familiarity with ATEX / hazardous area design requirements

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with FEA / stress analysis tools
  • Knowledge of subsea control systems
  • Background in offshore oil & gas or energy sector equipment
