Location: Crawley or Reading (2 days per week onsite)

Rate: Up to £800 per day (Inside IR35)

Duration: Initial 6-month contract

I'm looking for an experienced Technical Architect with Active SC Clearance to support the delivery of complex digital transformation programmes within a secure Defence environment. This is a high-profile role requiring a blend of hands‑on technical expertise, solution architecture leadership, stakeholder engagement, and governance across large-scale enterprise platforms and cloud‑based services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end‑to‑end technical design of complex systems and services
  • Produce and maintain architectural artefacts using Sparx Enterprise Architect
  • Define solution architectures aligned to business objectives and technical strategy
  • Provide technical governance, assurance, and design authority across delivery teams
  • Lead architecture activities throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Evaluate technology options, identify risks, and provide recommendations to stakeholders
  • Support pre‑sales activities, bid responses, and client engagements
  • Mentor engineering and architecture teams, promoting best practices and innovation
  • Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and architectural standards

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Technical Architect within large‑scale enterprise or government environments
  • Strong background in secure software delivery
  • Experience creating architecture models and documentation using Sparx EA
  • Experience designing cloud‑native solutions on Azure and/or AWS
  • Expertise in microservices, APIs, web services, and modern integration patterns
  • Strong knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD, and agile delivery methodologies
  • Experience with identity and access management technologies including OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, Active Directory, ADFS, and LDAP
  • Strong understanding of security best practices, including OWASP, NCSC guidance, and secure‑by‑design principles
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders

Desirable

  • TOGAF, ArchiMate, Azure, AWS, or other relevant architecture certifications
  • Experience delivering AI‑enabled solutions
  • Experience with real‑time data integration, event streaming, and IoT architectures
  • Data architecture experience
