iO are partnered with a UK-based professional services consultancy supporting highly regulated defence programmes. They’re looking for an experienced Munitions / OME Safety specialist to join on a contract basis, providing hands‑on expertise into a phase 1 prototype munition programme ahead of first firing activity.
What will you be doing?
- Producing and/or reviewing OME / munitions safety cases (writer + doer required).
- Leading hazard identification and ensuring the safety argument clearly demonstrates risks are understood and controlled (incl. public/civilian safety considerations).
- Advising project stakeholders on regulatory expectations and compliance routes for explosives / munitions activities.
- Working closely with the programme lead and wider delivery team to support an initial / prototype safety case through key milestones.
- Contributing to safety governance and assurance activities in line with defence standards and regulatory frameworks.
Requirements:
- Proven background in munitions / explosives safety (OME) and safety case development.
- Working knowledge of DOSR / DOSAR expectations (or closely aligned defence explosives regulation).
- Experience in a defence delivery context (e.g. DE&S / procurement / project team environment).
- Strong technical writing capability (clear, structured safety argumentation).
- Active SC clearance and Sole British status.
- Experience covering land-launched / ground-to-ground / ground-to-air weapons.
- Familiarity supporting first-of-type / prototype firing activity.
- Ability to operate with limited ambiguity in a time-critical programme environment.
