Role: Communication Systems Engineer (Transformation & Migration)
Location: London; Hybrid: 3 days per week onsite
Day Rate: £600 to £650 p/d Inside IR35
Length: 6 months rolling
Security Clearance: Active UK*C DV Required
You will be working on a major Transformation Programme, driving the shift from aging legacy hardware to modern, agile Unified Communications. Your mission is to ensure that every user, device, and site is migrated onto the new platform securely and seamlessly.
Core Responsibilities
- Engineering & Technical Execution
- Solution Build: Take ownership of the configuration and deployment of SIP, VoIP, and MS Teams Phone environments.
- Infrastructure Management: Setup and optimize SBCs, voice policies, and trunks to ensure high-quality connectivity.
- Migration Management: Execute complex number porting and endpoint onboarding, ensuring the decommissioning of legacy systems is handled safely.
- Diagnostic Support: Lead the investigation into complex routing or integration issues, providing rapid fixes during critical deployment phases.
- Delivery & Governance
- Site Readiness: Conduct audits and discovery sessions to map out site-specific requirements before the migration begins.
- Collaborative Delivery: Work hand-in-hand with external vendors and internal network teams to align with the wider programme roadmap.
- Testing & QA: Design and run functional tests, from failover scenarios to hunt-group validation, to guarantee the system is 'production-ready.'
- Technical Record-Keeping: Produce high-standard configuration guides and 'as-built' documentation.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a bridge between the technical team and the wider business, ensuring users are well-informed and their specific operational needs (like emergency lines) are met.
Experience & Technical Skills
- Voice Background: A proven track record in voice or communications engineering within complex, enterprise-scale environments.
- Modern Comms: Hands-on experience with cloud-voice platforms (MS Teams, Zoom, or Cisco) and a deep understanding of SIP/VoIP.
- Migration Specialist: You've 'been there and done it' when it comes to large-scale PSTN replacements and number porting.
- Documentation: Ability to turn complex technical setups into clear, digestible documentation.
