Location: Fully Remote (UK)

Are you an experienced Tech Lead or Engineering Lead who enjoys driving technical direction, leading high-performing agile teams, and shaping scalable backend platforms? We're partnering with a fast-growing product-led technology business looking for a senior technology leader to oversee a backend engineering function delivering highly scalable, customer-facing products used at scale. This role is primarily leadership and architecture focused (approximately 80% hands-off / 20% hands-on), ideal for someone who enjoys mentoring engineers, guiding delivery, influencing architecture, and working closely with product and business stakeholders.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading and mentoring an agile engineering squad of 10+ engineers
  • Driving technical delivery across backend services and platform initiatives
  • Providing architecture oversight and ensuring scalable, resilient solution design
  • Working closely with Product, Delivery and Engineering leadership on roadmap planning and execution
  • Championing engineering best practices, quality standards and continuous improvement
  • Supporting technical decision-making, code reviews and high-level solution design
  • Helping shape team structure, delivery processes and technical strategy
  • Acting as a senior technical stakeholder across the wider business

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience leading engineering squads or agile delivery teams
  • Strong background in backend engineering and distributed systems
  • Experience providing architecture guidance and technical oversight
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Strong understanding of agile delivery methodologies
  • Ideally experience within financial services, fintech, or payments environments

Tech Environment (Nice to Have)

  • Node.js / TypeScript
  • AWS cloud environments
  • REST APIs and event-driven architectures
  • CI/CD and modern engineering practices
