iO are currently partnered with a Bristol‑based engineering consultancy supporting high‑profile defence and maritime programmes. We're looking for an experienced Senior Maritime Safety Consultant to join on a permanent basis, supporting platform and equipment safety across complex customer environments.

You would be expected to:

  • Develop and maintain ship/equipment safety cases (naval and commercial surface ship environments)
  • Identify Safety Critical Items and help define performance standards / verification schemes
  • Produce policy, standards, guidance and training material to support safety methodology roll‑out
  • Engage proactively with stakeholders (on‑site and via Teams)
  • Support business development activity (shaping scope, supporting bids, client engagement)
  • Mentor and support developing engineers

Key skills and experience:

  • Background in maritime safety with broad knowledge of ships and submarines
  • Degree‑level education (or equivalent) in a relevant technical/engineering discipline
  • Working knowledge of UK Defence maritime regulatory frameworks and maritime safety management ways of working
  • Strong experience producing safety cases
  • Comfortable working flexibly across office / customer sites / remote
