Description
The Packing Hall Supervisor is enthusiastic and hardworking, with experience in all aspects of the packing process, has good attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
General / Operational Responsibilities
- With strong and effective management skills, the Packing Hall Supervisor will manage the team and:
- Promote and build a culture of high employee engagement and motivation.
- Conduct and aid the Technical Trainers in relation to on-the-job training.
- Ensure the team are aware of daily targets and ensure production boards are updated correctly in line with product information.
- Conduct daily team briefings to assign work, recognise achievement, communicate daily targets and provide handover information to the team.
- Monitor all areas of the packing hall and where needed, reallocate employees to ensure effective use of resources.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement across the packing hall team to drive productivity whilst sustain quality.
- Ensure products are packed correctly as per plan, on time, and right first time.
- Monitor the packing area to ensure it complies with quality, safety, and legal standards.
- Ensure all employees are adhering to hygiene standards including the wearing of PPE.
- Recommend improvements in quality and packing procedures and equipment.
- Carrying out investigations into customer complaints in the required timescales.
- Manage the staffing levels across all lines, taking into consideration absences.
- Coordinate and manage shutdowns, production start-up and changeovers.
- Follow and ensure the team follow standard operating procedures.
- Ensure all paperwork and manufacturing documentation are completed accurately and in time.
- Monitor all lines and address issues as they arise, escalating to the Production Manager.
- Support the team in achieving the results required by the company.
- Identify, recommend, and implement changes to improve packing hall and all related activity.
Training, Coaching And Development Responsibilities
- Champion and take full ownership of new hires within the department including:
- Providing a detailed department induction when a new hire joins your team.
- Allocating an appropriate training mentor to guide and train the new hire.
- Monitoring and assisting the training mentor to ensure the training being provided is to the highest standard.
- Monitor and keep accurate the UKG Learning skills matrix for all employees assigned to your area of the business.
- Manage and control training administration and the submission of training via UKG Learning.
- Ensure that your team are only assigned to machines that they are trained on as per the skills matrix.
- Provide training to employees as directed by the Head of Development & Compliance or the Technical Trainers including on the job, short take training.
Leadership / Management Responsibilities
- Assist the Production Manager in:
- Driving down absence by following the absence management process and procedures.
- Monitoring and managing capability across the department, coaching under performance in a supportive and encouraging manner, identifying training needs and using Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) where necessary.
- Promoting a culture of high employee engagement and motivation where the needs of the business are balanced with the needs of individuals.
- Organising tasks and setting goals for the team to achieve the departmental targets and that of the wider INW Bee Health and INW company.
- Being a leadership ambassador to the vision & values of INW Bee Health, championing what good looks like.
- Attending, in the absence of the Packing Hall Manager, PDCA/SQDCP/Planning Meetings/NPD and EPD Meetings.
- Take full ownership of the Return to Work Interview process and the updating of UGK system.
- Responsible for team reviews and performance appraisals including regularity reviewing of performance in line with the skills matric / training position.
- Develop strong interdepartmental relationships across all departments at INW Bee Health to ensure best practice is observed throughout the department.
- Manage the day to day needs of the department including holiday management, capability management, probation and appraisal reviews.
Planning & Improvement Responsibilities
- Assist the Production Manager in:
- Communicating with the planning department to ensure that the weekly plan is achievable and any issues that may arise are dealt with and planned accordingly for the week ahead.
- Carrying out regular skills gap analysis across the department to identify skills gaps and requirements to help plan and inform future requirements and internal progression.
- Championing the promotion and implementation of new processes across the department.
- Conduct daily reviews of planned production and staffing levels to ensure
- Necessary resources and skills are available to achieve the required targets.
- Where over staffed ensure effective utilisation (1) across the wider business covering shortages, (2) additional training and/or (3) deep cleaning of working areas.
- Produce and provide a comprehensive daily handover for the next shift, in a clear, unbiased and efficient manner.
- Identify, recommend and implement changes to improve the packing hall department and all related activities.
