A globally recognised technology organisation is looking for an experienced Senior Cloud Platform Architect to help design, develop and optimise enterprise scale cloud platforms across Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure. This is a senior technical position combining Cloud Architecture, Platform Engineering and DevOps, with responsibility for defining cloud patterns, architecting Landing Zones and enabling secure, scalable cloud adoption. You will work closely with engineering and DevOps teams to modernise cloud environments, establish Infrastructure as Code standards and provide technical leadership across complex multi cloud transformation programmes.
Responsibilities
- Architect and optimise enterprise Cloud Landing Zones across GCP and Azure.
- Design scalable, secure and resilient multi cloud platform solutions.
- Define cloud architecture patterns and engineering standards to support enterprise cloud adoption.
- Design and implement container platforms using Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
- Define and enforce cloud governance frameworks covering identity, access management, networking, security and compliance.
- Design reusable and modular Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform and Terraform Cloud.
- Implement Policy as Code guardrails using OPA and Sentinel.
- Lead Kubernetes architecture, workload orchestration and service mesh integration using Istio.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to integrate CI/CD pipelines for automated infrastructure and application deployments.
- Develop automation scripts and workflows using Python.
- Support the migration of legacy applications and infrastructure into modern cloud native environments.
- Identify opportunities to improve cloud security, resilience, automation and operational efficiency.
- Optimise cloud resource utilisation and support cost management initiatives.
- Provide technical leadership across Cloud Platform Engineering, architecture and strategy.
- Work with senior stakeholders to communicate technical decisions, architectural direction and best practices.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience working as a Cloud Architect, Cloud Platform Architect or similar senior cloud engineering professional.
- Strong hands on experience across Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Commercial experience working with Microsoft Azure.
- Strong experience designing and implementing enterprise Cloud Landing Zones.
- Advanced Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform and Terraform Cloud.
- Strong Kubernetes experience including GKE and AKS.
- Experience with containerisation and cloud native architectures.
- Knowledge of service mesh technologies including Istio.
- Strong understanding of cloud governance, IAM, networking and security.
- Experience implementing Policy as Code using OPA and/or Sentinel.
- Experience integrating infrastructure deployments with CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of CI/CD technologies such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions or Harness.
- Python scripting experience for cloud automation.
- Experience designing scalable, resilient and secure enterprise cloud platforms.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to provide technical leadership across engineering and architecture teams.
Desirable Skills
- Experience operating as a GCP Cloud SME.
- Experience providing technical consultancy across cloud design, architecture and strategy.
- Experience with developer or cloud engineering platforms such as Backstage.
- Experience leading enterprise cloud transformation and migration programmes.
- Strong understanding of modern DevOps and Platform Engineering practices.
- Experience influencing cloud strategy and engineering standards across multiple teams.
- Ability to provide thought leadership around cloud innovation and best practice.
