Our client is a leading marine engineering company delivering specialist solutions to global cruise operators, and commercial shipping companies.

Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Project Engineer with a strong background in marine surveying, 3D laser scanning, and the production of accurate engineering deliverables within complex vessel environments.

This is a specialist role focused on 3D laser scanning, FARO Scene point cloud processing, marine surveying, and the creation of engineering packages to support piping modifications, fabrication projects, structural steel works, and vessel upgrades.

Key Responsibilities Marine 3D Laser Scanning & Surveying

  • Carry out detailed 3D laser scanning surveys onboard cruise ships, vessels, dry docks, and marine facilities.
  • Capture accurate spatial data within complex vessel environments including machinery spaces, technical areas, accommodation spaces, pipework routes, structural areas, and equipment zones.
  • Plan survey activities to ensure complete data capture while working within operational vessel and dry dock constraints.
  • Process and manage high-volume point cloud datasets using FARO Scene software.
  • Register, align, clean, and validate scan data to produce accurate digital survey information.
  • Produce coordinated point cloud models and survey outputs suitable for engineering design and fabrication purposes. Engineering Packages & As-Built Deliverables
  • Develop detailed engineering survey packages from 3D scan data to support vessel modifications and upgrade projects.

* Produce accurate as-built drawings and digital references for

  • New and modified piping systems
  • Pipe routing and clash identification
  • Fabrication and installation works
  • Structural steel modifications
  • Equipment replacements and upgrades
  • Extract dimensions, locations, and spatial relationships from point cloud data to support engineering design.
  • Create 2D drawings, layouts, and fabrication information using Auto CAD.
  • Provide accurate digital representations of existing vessel arrangements to reduce risk during engineering and installation activities.
  • Support reverse engineering activities where existing vessel information or drawings are unavailable. Experience Required
  • Proven experience in marine surveying, 3D laser scanning, or dimensional control within marine, offshore, or industrial environments.
  • Experience undertaking laser scanning surveys within vessels, shipyards, or dry dock environments.
  • Strong practical knowledge of FARO Scene software, including point cloud registration, processing, and data management.
  • Experience producing engineering outputs from point cloud data.
  • Competent Auto CAD user with experience producing as-built drawings and technical documentation.
  • Understanding of marine piping systems, fabrication processes, and structural steel applications.
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally across Europe and the United States. Working Arrangement
